QR MENU LABEL GUIDE · 7 MIN READ

Choosing a metal QR menu label:
size, material and mounting guide.

A QR menu label on a table may be a small product, but the wrong size, contrast, metal type or mounting method makes it difficult to use. The right label scans quickly, withstands cleaning and fits the venue’s appearance.

A metal QR menu label is a durable tabletop identification product that directs a customer to a digital menu, ordering page, payment screen or review link. A good result requires more than a working QR code: the code must be placed at the right size, with sufficient contrast and at an angle suitable for the table.

How is the size of a QR menu label determined?

Size is determined by the amount of data in the code, the distance at which a phone can approach the label, table lighting and the logo/text area in the design. A long web address produces a denser QR code. A manageable short link simplifies the code and supports legibility at a smaller size.

Leave clear space around the code on a tabletop label; logos, borders, screw holes and cut edges should not enter this area. Before series production, produce a full-scale sample and test it with different phones in low and bright light.

Aluminium, stainless steel or brass?

Aluminium is widely used because it is light, machinable and suited to different finishes. Stainless steel stands out where intensive use, frequent cleaning and greater mechanical durability are expected. Brass can be a decorative choice for boutique restaurants, hotels and special presentation areas because of its warm metal tone.

When choosing a material, assess not only its appearance but also cleaning chemicals, scratch risk, table surface, humidity and edge safety. Read our metal label material guide for more on metal options.

How is QR-code readability protected?

  1. Use a short, durable link. The destination should remain manageable if the menu address changes.
  2. Create high contrast. Code and background must be clearly separated.
  3. Test glare. Reflections from polished metal can make scanning difficult from certain angles.
  4. Leave a quiet zone. Do not place graphics or mounting holes around the code.
  5. Test with target phones. Scan a sample with different cameras and operating systems.

Tabletop mounting options

Strong industrial double-sided adhesive gives a clean appearance without drilling the table, but wood, marble, laminate and textured surfaces have different adhesion behaviour. Screws or rivets are more permanent but require work on the table surface. Raised mounting lifts the label above the surface. A freestanding metal or acrylic stand provides portability.

The mounting position should not be covered by drinks, plates or service equipment, and a customer should be able to bring a phone close to the label easily. Round the edges and avoid protrusions that make table cleaning harder.

What information should the design contain?

  • A clear, short instruction such as “Scan for menu”
  • Business logo or brand name
  • A sufficiently large, high-contrast QR code
  • A table number or section code where required
  • A short web address for use if the link does not open

Rather than combining many functions such as menu, Wi-Fi, payment and reviews on one label, a clear user purpose generally produces a better result. If a separate action such as a Google review card is needed, the heading and code should be clearly separated.

How is the production method selected?

Laser marking creates permanent codes and text on metal. For multicolour corporate designs, UV printing can be considered on a suitable metal surface. Engraving, printing or marking should be selected according to metal type, number of colours, target durability and quantity.

Plan the digital destination too

If the label will be used for years, the QR destination should not depend on one PDF or a temporary service. A manageable redirect under your own domain lets you update the menu without replacing the label.

Pre-order checklist

  • Label dimensions, quantity and number of tables
  • Metal type, finish colour and thickness
  • The exact destination that the QR code will open
  • Logo, instruction text and table number
  • Adhesive, screw, raised mount or stand preference
  • Table surface and cleaning method used
  • Sample scan and mounting trial

The right label makes access to the menu effortless

When size, contrast, surface and mounting are planned together, a metal QR menu label becomes both a functional and a branded product. Share a table photo, dimensions, quantity and link to request a solution and quote suited to your project.

Frequently asked questions

How many centimetres should a metal QR menu label be?

There is no single mandatory size for comfortable phone scanning. It depends on the code content, scan distance and design; a full-scale sample should be scanned before production for tabletop applications.

Should a QR menu label be aluminium or stainless steel?

Aluminium is light, economical and versatile. Stainless steel may be preferred for greater mechanical durability and demanding use. Venue, cleaning and mounting conditions should be assessed together.

How is a metal QR-code label fixed to a table?

Strong adhesive, screws, rivets, raised mounts or a freestanding tabletop stand can be used. Surface type, need for removability and cleaning method determine the mounting choice.

Can a QR code be changed over time?

The physical code on metal is fixed. If a manageable redirect address is used, the digital menu or destination opened by the code can be updated without replacing the label.
